Step-by-Step Solution
Tap the Bumper
Place the robot on the floor.
With the palm of your hand, give the bumper a few gentle but firm taps, first on the left side, then the right, then the front.
This can often shake loose the obstruction.
Manually Test the Bumper
Use your thumbs to press the bumper inwards and then let it go.
Do this repeatedly, moving along the entire length of the bumper from left to right.
It should press in smoothly and spring back instantly.
You are looking for a spot that feels gritty, doesn't press in, or doesn't spring back.
Once you find the spot, press and release it multiple times to try and crush or work the debris free.
Clean the Gap
Take a thin but stiff piece of paper (like a business card) and slide it into the narrow gap between the bumper and the robot's main body.
Slide it back and forth along the entire length to sweep out any hidden dust or debris.
A can of compressed air can also work wonders here.
Frequently Asked Questions
How should the bumper work normally?
The bumper should press in smoothly and spring back instantly. If you feel grittiness, it doesn't press in, or doesn't spring back, there's likely debris stuck.
