Step-by-Step Solution
Locate the Cliff Sensors
Power off the robot and flip it over onto a soft surface.
Look along the very front edge of the robot's underside.
You will see three or four small, circular or teardrop-shaped plastic "windows".
These are the cliff sensors.
Clean the Sensors
Take a soft, clean cloth (a microfiber cloth for eyeglasses is perfect) and slightly dampen it with water or rubbing alcohol.
Firmly wipe each sensor window.
Make sure you remove all traces of dust, smudges, and grime.
A Q-tip can be useful for getting right into the edges.
Once they are all sparkling clean, flip the robot back over and start it.
The error should be gone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won't my robot work on dark carpets?
The cliff sensors interpret dark surfaces as "holes". If the sensors are clean but you still have issues, you may need to manually guide the robot in dark areas.
